I then opened with notepad, pasted in the GA code, saved it, then use FZ to copy over the existing one. I ended-up doing as think you said, just drag and drop to the desktop. I have a feeling the stats generated by google on a phpbb forum will not give a true indication of your site statistics, or maybe google is cleverer than i think. You will then have to purge the cache to see the changes. You really should be downloading the files using ftp, editing them using a real text editor and then uploading them back.
